The Hydrous is led by marine biologist Dr. Erika Woolsey, guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and a Science & Technology Advisory Council, and supported by contractors and volunteers.

Leadership

Dr. Erika Woolsey

Co-founder, Chief Scientist & CEO

Dr. Erika Woolsey is a marine biologist and National Geographic Explorer. She spent years studying coral reefs on the Great Barrier Reef and earned her PhD at James Cook University.

She is an Affiliate of Stanford's Virtual Human Interaction Lab and a Visiting Professor at OceanX, has been named to the Explorers Club 50 and TIME's 2026 Trailblazers, and tours with National Geographic Live.
